It doesn't look to have the greatest spec (e.g. no USB 3 or ac WiFi), but does anyone have any insight into its suitability for Kodi, HD audio etc.?

Looks similar to the Pipo X7 and similar Baytrail-T devices based on tablet SoCs. They are the same SoCs also used in the Intel Compute Sticks and similar.

OK for Windows Kodi, though nothing special, and some designs (the Pipo for instance) need heatsink mods to avoid them overheating and throttling the CPU back. They can be a bit of a pain to get OpenElec and Linux running on as many are 32-bit UEFI + 64 bit CPUs (the Intel Compute Stick is better in this regard) and don't have legacy BIOS modes.

No HD Audio support in Windows (but there is 8 channel PCM and DTS/DD/DD+ pass through on the Pipo) and I think there were issues with HD Audio in Linux too.

Not sure I'd go that route now Braswell stuff is appearing.
