v15 RPI2 Openelec codec headaches
#1
I have been using the RPI2 for a couple of weeks now as my media player, and it plays most of my tv shows without problems. I have bought and installed the key for the MPEG2 and VC1 licenses. However, there are many cases in my collection of anime where it just plays the audio and not the video when I open an episode, using hardware acceleration. If I switch it to software it will play it, but very jerky.

I dont know what to try to solve this issue. The episodes play fine on my PC, no issues with them there. So I suspect that the rpi just mistakes the codec for something, or is unable to find the video stream within the MKV container. How to solve it, I have no clue, and thats why I ask you here. What should I do to solve it?

What is the format of the videos? Use mediainfo or post a debug log (wiki)
Probably a codec without HW decoder support (h.265 or 10-bit h.264).

Here is a log of the files (prime examples that is); http://sharesend.com/rfd16bxu
This one that has a log named "not working" is the first episode, the "working" one is the second. First episode plays only audio, no video. Second episode play flawlessly. I dont see any difference in the codecs etc used. Hence why I am stumped at solving it.

Can you use a paste site (like xbmclogs.com for your log.
I get a virus warning from the sharesend download.

http://xbmclogs.com/pyxspjht7 <- Not working file (same codec, same fansub group etc)
http://xbmclogs.com/pmctgmhax <- Working

Strange that you get a virus warning. Never had an issue with sharesend.

These are outputs from MediaINFO btw

Both files are "High 10@L5" which is 10bit H.264. That is not supported by Pi with hardware decode (in fact I don't believe any hardware decoders exist for that format).
You will need to transcode or use a desktop PC to play them.

(note: sometimes these files play with artefacts, depending on how frequently the frames actually use 10-bit encoding. I suspect even your good file isn't perfect but will have incorrect blocks).

@Arioch1973: FYI it's usually a lot easier/common to post the Text output from MediaInfo (select Text in the View menu) not the XML output which is a lot harder to interpret.
Texture Cache Maintenance Utility: Preload your texture cache for optimal UI performance. Remotely manage media libraries. Purge unused artwork to free up space. Find missing media. Configurable QA check to highlight metadata issues. Aid in diagnosis of library and cache related problems.

Pardon about the XML. And hmm. I thought the RPI2 had 10bit support. Most episodes play just fine, but some act like that. Which is quite annoying. Especially since there are other people using the rpi to watch anime, and have no problems with 10bit encodes. Oh well. I guess I will just remove the anime as a source from the media player Sad
