New Celeron braswell nuc5CPYH Live TV 125% CPU
#1
HI All,

Just got a new NUC for the bedroom TV NUC5CPYH. Everything seems to be dandy except LiveTV provided via TVH from my main box in the living room.

I believe this is the relevant section of the log -

Code:
19:52:37 T:140176364533504   ERROR: ffmpeg[7F7D5A69F700]: [mpeg2video] Invalid frame dimensions 0x0.
19:52:37 T:140176364533504   ERROR: Decode - avcodec_decode_video returned failure
19:52:37 T:140176364533504   DEBUG: CDVDPlayerVideo - video decoder returned error
19:52:37 T:140176364533504   DEBUG: CDVDPlayerVideo::CalcDropRequirement - hurry: 0
19:52:37 T:140176364533504   ERROR: ffmpeg[7F7D5A69F700]: [mpeg2video] Invalid frame dimensions 0x0.
19:52:37 T:140176364533504   ERROR: Decode - avcodec_decode_video returned failure
19:52:37 T:140176364533504   DEBUG: CDVDPlayerVideo - video decoder returned error
19:52:37 T:140176364533504   DEBUG: CDVDPlayerVideo::CalcDropRequirement - hurry: 0

But here's the entire debug log here -

http://pastebin.com/6J6BDU38

Granted this is 16 alpha, however the same issue occurs in kodi 15 and all relevant versons of OpenElec available

I followed the install tips here http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...t=braswell and everything else I've tried plays fine (blu-ray/dvd rips)

Any ideas where to start?

Backend sends shit - one clearly sees that in the log. All fine with recordings?

First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

I haven't specifically tried the TV recordings, I will this afternoon when I get back in front of it.

Perhaps I don't understand how the remote client interacts differently than a local client. All works great on the main box.

Additionally, I can open streams on my desktop and laptop through VLC or Potplayer things work fine. Even Kodi on my older moto G android plays the live TV streams great, all from the same backend.

Yep, recorded TV is fine cpu ~24%

edit: its worth noting i guess that even on my phone my cpu is around 200+% , however I don't experience the stuttering, pixelization or out of sync sound.

OK, little more experimenting, things seems to work fine on some channels, other channels not.

Any ideas on how to determine what the difference is?

So looked a little more at this today - here are 2 screens with the video/audio info, they overlay made the cpu usage jump some. As you can see on one the cpu usage is 56%/100%, this an example of a channel that skips, lags and pixelates.

The other plays great...only difference I see is the fr , i guess this means frame rate?

Any ideas?

something else I just noticed...it looks like the cache indicated slowly builds to 99% and that when it pixelates and "catches" up the video to the audio.

Edit again: I had previously thought the recordings were fine. Buy recordings on the affected channels exhibit the same behavior. I had previously checked recordings on good channels, before I found it was only some channels that had the problem.

Finally got this fixed -

Turned out to be the deinterlace settings on the channels that provided interlaced video streams. Kodi was set to auto, not sure what method that uses but it was eating the CPU. Changing it to yes and using VAAPI fixed the issue.
