Linux (Kodibuntu) Severe stuttering/buffering during on-disk playback
#31
Go to the OE homepage, download the 5.95.5 im.gz, gunzip the img.gz and dd the img to an usb stick (the raw device), after that boot the usb stick and write "live" at the start.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

I don't see maxed CPU, and I'm watching media on a local drive. Your issue looks like it's network-related.

Alright, I'm still seeing the same problem on OpenELEC, running a USB live instance exactly per your instructions. Debug log, if it's helpful: http://sprunge.us/XKVF

Logs are fine ... post a sample of this xvid file (you are still testing with those xvid thingies from 1990) ... make sure that you can reproduce the issue with these ...

I wasn't aware xvid was a dated format. What should I be using?

I had a similar issue a while back - solved it by setting the vertical blanking (Systems settings - Video) from 'On video start only' to 'Always'. Give it a go, you'll never know ... an easy test Smile

Hmm, that does seem to have solved it for some cases, (the xvid I posted a clip of seems to have no problems at all now) but some of the other files that were misbehaving just stop immediately upon reaching the portions that were previously causing the stuttering effect. I grabbed a new debug log during that behavior: http://paste.ubuntu.com/12644160/

@fritsch: hate to bother you guys, but have you had a chance to take a look at this again? I'm seeing problems with practically every file I try to play now.

Nope - currently having other priorities - which one is your trac bug number?

Welp, I finally got a disk error message when booting the machine the other day. Looks like that was the problem, after all. Thanks anyway for all the help!
