Go to the OE homepage, download the 5.95.5 im.gz, gunzip the img.gz and dd the img to an usb stick (the raw device), after that boot the usb stick and write "live" at the start.

Logs are fine ... post a sample of this xvid file (you are still testing with those xvid thingies from 1990) ... make sure that you can reproduce the issue with these ...

I had a similar issue a while back - solved it by setting the vertical blanking (Systems settings - Video) from 'On video start only' to 'Always'. Give it a go, you'll never know ... an easy test

Hmm, that does seem to have solved it for some cases, (the xvid I posted a clip of seems to have no problems at all now) but some of the other files that were misbehaving just stop immediately upon reaching the portions that were previously causing the stuttering effect. @fritsch: hate to bother you guys, but have you had a chance to take a look at this again? I'm seeing problems with practically every file I try to play now.
