I just bought my mom a nexus player and installed kodi 15.1 with xperience1080 as skin. Dose anyone know how to get the option on the remote like to change widget or add to favorites I cant seem to figure it out

You can use the Skin Settings -> Home to configure the widgets.
(Settings -> Skin Settings -> Home -> Manage widgets)
