I was wondering if it is possible to map a remote button to a specific keyboard combination, like alt-f4 or alt-tab, and have this button perform those exact keystrokes. What I'm after is a button that will kill chrome (alt-f4), then alt-tab back to kodi, after having used netflixbmc, which uses chrome to play the video ... Any help appreciated. Thanks.

There's various ways to do this, and I've tried most of them. I settled for xbindkeys. Works beautifully without a single hitch. If I remember correctly you should use evtest to monitor/get the right keycode to bind. Google will help you along the way.

I tried to accomplish something similar, but when I use evtest to get the keycodes, they don't show up for some keys. I use a VRC 1100, which doesn't show events for vol up, vol down and mute, other keys work. Any ideas?

Ok, I also tried to get the keystrokes from input-events, no difference, althought the buttons work in kodi. Strange.
