I'm losing my mind! (Music Library Issue)
#1
I'm sorry for the barrage of links heading this way. The last time I did something like this on a forum, I got banned from the site for posting "spam" (however, it was all internal links to the sites' own message boards). I didn't care much about that forum, I laughed, moved on and haven't looked back. This does make me reluctant to post this issue and this number of links, and I honestly don't want to be banned from this forum!!! So, mod's/admin, please take pity on me, I really like Kodi and these forums!!!

So, the normal parts: Windows 10 Home, 64bit, Kodi 15.1, 12gb RAM

I've got a nice little quandry.

I have one artist (Jai Waetford) I know of that has been scanned in to the library, however, the artist doesn't show up in the library artist view.

However, searching for the artist in Kodi results in this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3tp6vp0y580r8i...1.PNG?dl=0

And going into the artist result from there gives me the albums:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ylwbziufqnvd1i...2.PNG?dl=0

At this point, I fired up Firefox and used SQL Lite addon to view the Kodi library.

album_artist database, where it shows up:

artist database, where it shows up:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/s91qqkfppo6s9a...t.PNG?dl=0

artist view database, where it shows up:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8eqhf019yr3gsj...w.PNG?dl=0

I have a few music videos of this artist, so going off of the search results above, I bring up the context menu, to go to the artists' music videos:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/393k1ptrr5wb5n...s.PNG?dl=0

Then, I bring up the context menu to go back to the artist albums, and that works ok, brought me there.

So! I decide to go nuclear, close Kodi, temporarily rename the music database, reopen Kodi and scan only this artist in.

Music->Artist->Library after doing this:

Music section on home, showing recently imported music:

I'm very lost on what is happening and going on, and/or any ways to fix this issue, any suggestions?

(I'm really hoping this isn't my last post here and I can continue visiting... :/ )

GAAAAAAH! Disregard. Found the culprit, it was an NFO file that was causing this. Deleting that file and adding the entry to the database solved it.

If someone would like to diagnose why it's occurring, I assembled the problem folder into a ZIP file and posted it on Dropbox as well; don't worry, I haven't included the audio of these songs with it, but I did do a one second recording of a non-existant microphone to simulate there being an audio track. The problem NFO file is located in the folder, "Dont Let Me Go," and I could replicate the issue. The other folders imported fine, however I don't see much of a difference between the NFO files, with my untrained NFO eyes. Smile

Extra note: all four NFOs created using MediaElch

To be honest I think a debug log showing what's happening while you scan the item to the library would be a lot more help than all the other files.

Ok, I'll post that later today, when I get back

Well, I've no idea what all that is. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like you did a bit of editing of the log before posting so I don't really want to spend too much of my Sunday morning on this at the moment, but if you really are losing your mind and want to sort it out I would suggest temporarily hiding your sources.xml, add just the faulting directory as a source, select local information only in your music scrapers, clear your music database, re-scan and then see what's happening. May then be much easier to see what's happening.

No editing, straight copy/paste of the log. I will try hiding sources.xml, etc, the results are below:

My apologies. Well, it looks like everything is scanning in ok from line 800 to 850, but I take it the artist list is still empty. The immediate thought I have is that all those tracks/albums are marked as compilations and you have the setting to show artists in compilations off. Perhaps try setting that on (settings - music - library). Do the other views (songs, albums) show these items? If that doesn't work could you play a track using the search method you did before and post the log after that.

Ha, bingo! I had compilations de-selected, enabling it the artist displayed again. I never thought of that option! Thanks!!

Out of curiousity for myself, where may the compilations setting that Kodi used to do this be located? I looked at the NFO and MP3 metadata for something in this case that may be compilation related, but didn't see anything.

Bit complicated I think. Even when there's not an explicit tag Kodi still infers compilations from the combinations of album artists and artist tags in the mp3s themselves. Info is here http://kodi.wiki/view/Adding_music_to_th...le_Artists, but you'll need to find someone with a bigger brain than me to explain it simply.
