Should I upgrade?
#1
My Apple TV1 has been going along so well for over a year now without any major glitches I'm almost afraid to upgrade. But here's a few issues:

1. When I hit rewind, the image on the screen freezes, then the voice track goes back (I can see the timeline) and plays... but the picture will take 30-60 seconds to unfreeze and go back to the sync spot.

2. Every once in a while while watching a movie... I'll see a "bump" which means a split-second freeze and then I never see another problem as long as I watch the movie to its conclusion.

3. I'm running XMBC v.13.2 compiled August 2014 using Confluence. I saw a message on the screen that I should upgrade so thats why I'm posting!

Right now, I'm booting from a USB stick. I recall someone (maybe Ned or Memphis?) telling me that I can improve my performance if I set up the ATV1 to boot from the internal HDD. If thats the case, I'm willing to take a crack at it... just not sure what version to go with. Just a reminder that I'm also using the internal Crystal Decoder Card in place of my wifi card. If somebody can give me a link to the best option... I'd appreciate it. From what I've read it almost looks like my only upgrade option is to go to OpenELEC?

Thanks... Mike

There is an unofficial OpenELEC / Kodi Isengard 15.1 now available and it works nicely indeed.
Just make sure to remove your usb stick first, boot to Apple Frontrow and in settings set the ATV1 to RGB High.

This avoids a pink screen on boot with OpenELEC.

Install to HDD for best performance.
