Best Video Settings for Bluray Only
#1
First post.....

Newbee.

I only use Blurays with Kodi, ripped and stored on my Nas.

Since I don't need any upscaling, what are the best video settings I should have VIDEO set to so all video gets passed through without any processing?
I have a Lumagen VP after the PC.

Appreciate the experts comments.

Impossible to answer as you have given no real details of your hardware. A debug log will help to some extent as that gives details of your hardware.

With your Video question, you probably want to turn on Expert mode and then head into the SYSTEM\VIDEO OUTPUT\ settings:
http://kodi.wiki/view/Settings/System
http://kodi.wiki/view/Settings/Videos - look at Acceleration section

Make those settings best match your hardware. Though the defaults are probably more than good enough unless you have a specific problem.

It would pay you to go have a nose through all of the settings. See what it there and available even if you don't change the setting yet. I'd certainly avoid adding tons of add-ons yet as it is best to understand the core KODI first as it does a hell of a lot on its own.

Thank you for the explaination...

I have been using Kodi/XBMC now for 4 years and have read all the user settings and are familiar with them. I pretty much are using all the default settings so that's fine. But my question was I don't want any processing going on as I use a Lumagen, I only want a PASSTHROUGH for VIDEO, but it looks like you can get such a thing with Kodi, correct? Ive searched all through the manual and I see NO reference to video passthrough....

If I cant get video passthrough do you know what video setting would have the least manipulation of video?

I believe there are other programmes rather than Kodi that do allow one to select video passthrough, but really I don't want to change...
I have my whole video 700 + BD library on kodi running off an ipad, so changing is a hassle...

Thanks in advance..

The question might also be, do you see any difference comparing to the original BR in an A-B test? If not, then I don't understand the question about the 'best' setting Wink

As you still miss to provide a Debug Log, which was asked for before, it's still hard to give any advice.

Depending on your hardware and operating system, it can be very difficult to get true high quality video passthrough (ie. no unnecessary color space / range conversions) with the current versions of Kodi. There is one particular combination of settings that can do so on existing stable/beta builds.

However, this issue is being worked on right now, and just in the past 2 weeks there have been all-new development builds that have made me - a video purist - VERY happy indeed. But I'm running OpenElec on Intel hardware, and we still don't know what you're running!
