I am running pvrwmc 0.6.6 with test backend server 1212 build using nightly Kodi 16 a3 0909. I am looking at the new built-in series recording. When I create a new guide recording (i.e., go to PVR guide, select an entry, and then create a new timer), that timer is created as a one-time (guide) timer and can't be edited later to series. I have a thread on this in the main support forum, but am linking it here in case it is PVR client dependent, Thread is here:

Will you later change a onetime record to a series record?
Why you dont delete the onetime and create a new series record?

You need to do "add custom timer" on the Epg entry, in order to select the "repeating (guide based)" timer type

I think Scott is looking for the ability to 'edit' a single episode timer converting it into a series timer. Which is reasonable imo, but I don't think the current kodi16 api allows for it.

What I wanted to do was to click on a guide entry and create series recording. But when you click on the entry, there is a button to add a new timer and that will only create a one-time timer. So when I had created the timer, I figured I could edit it so I went into the PVR timers view to do that, and found that the button in the timer edit dialog to change the "type" is disabled. In investigating how it works, I can't see why there are two different ways to create a timer from the guide, one that allows edits during/after creating the timer, and another that is "hard-coded" and can't be edited.

I got into this because I am maintaining a skin, and with the series recordings moving from PVR client add-on to core Kodi I want to understand how best to implement things (if possible in skin code).
