This may be a stupid question, but I've searched for a couple of days and can't find the answer.

What do I need to do in an add-on to enable embedded closed captions to play? I've enabled the "parse for closed captions" under Settings->Video->subtitles, but can't get the closed captions to display.
Is there an api call for the addon to enable/tell kodi that the stream has closed captions?

Specifically, I'm trying to get the TCM addon https://github.com/learningit/plugin.video.tcm to display closed captions.
Nearly all the movies have cc embedded in the stream.

I've searched further and I'm not sure whether the ATSC "608" closed captions are actually supported in the PVR or are processed when you play any media in Kodi. I'm really struggling to understand how to use closed captions that are embedded in the media for the TCM addon. They are marked as "608" format which it looks like should be supported in Kodi 15.0 and above. Does anyone know more about this?
