And its not enough to uncheck the "Enable AirPlay "Videos" and "Pictures" support"? (which normally is needed to allow audio airplay for clients with iox 9 and newer)

Hi.
I just faced the same issue and couldn't get it to work and found this thread.
What helped was turning the volume control off in the Airplay settings of Kodi.
Now my Mac can connect successfully (10.12.2)
Perhaps this wil help others.

Same issues here! OSX 10.11.6 Once I played around with the ON/OFF switches of both AirPlay in general and the volume control it finally showed up in the menu, but only for a few seconds. After connecting I was also able to switch both back-on again.... Very odd behaviour, indeed! Fair enough, when switching back to internal speakers the Kodi device disappears again. Then I also switched off the support for Video and Pictures and at least up to now it stays visible. In iTunes it always works. I guess its some kind of protection.
