Looking for a specific type of remote control
#1
Hello all.

Been lurking awhile and now looking to build myself a Pi2 Media box. I'm looking for suggestions for a remote control. Been googling but not quite found an answer.

Ideally I would like a remote that is NOT line of site so no IR. Is a "normal" media remote so has play, pause, four way selector but also has a keyboard. I have seen a view designs where it looks like a remote but has s keyboard on the reverse.

Finally ideally it would work out of the box out with as little tinkering as possible.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Have a look at the Tivo Slide Pro : http://kodi.wiki/view/TiVo_Slide

Uses RF (so no line of sight), and has a slide out keyboard. Takes a little bit of work to get keymaps right - and most of us using it remap slow-mo as stop (as it doesn't have a stop button)

If buying on e-bay make sure you get the one with the USB dongle (some TIvos need it, others don't - so it is usually available both with and without the USB receiver needed for a non-Tivo to use it)

(Ignore any discussion of using a Bluetooth receiver to receive it - that's a non-starter really)

Thanks noggin

Just looked on eBay and they're a little pricy in the £35-£50 range.

I'm starting to wonder if I simply get a remote such as the PS3 Blu Ray remote which, correct me if I'm wrong, works out of the box on Isengaard and then rely on a phone app for when I need the keyboard.

The PI2 is for home media for me (tech savvy), my wife (not tech savvy) and my for year old son. They're not likely to need the keyboard really.

I've been eying the Rii i25/i25A, but I'm not completely sure yet. Its mostly RF, with some IR (the top half orange buttons/dpad). Might be worth a look.

Yes I do like the look of this remote but have not been able to find out much in respect of it playing nicely with Kodi/Openelec/Pi2
