I really miss such a basic feature. Let's say you have a SIMPSONS folder and want to watch some episodes...
but you really dont want to make a tracklist before... you just want kodi to surprise you and play random videos
out of THAT folder (or maybe even subfolders)... taht would be really sweet...

i can do this by using my smartphone and bubbleupnp / twonky server and only use kodi as a dlna-client - but then again i wonder: why do i have to?

adding a "play/loop random video(s)" to the context menu would make life so much easier (as it also would work for mp3s).

It seems like a basic request and not tooo hard to implement, is it?

I would love to see that one added to garvis or even 15.2

I just noticed last night if you go to seasons and use context menu->Play that will randomize the files. Haven't tried context menu->play at the tvshow level yet though. I would imagine it may do the same for music, but not sure. I'll try it out later and let you know.

Already possible with context menu add-ons. At least two were being worked on and hopefully one (or both?) gets added to the official repo.
