Win Instant shut down after start up.

Hey all,

I chose semi-clueless as I have a VERY slight understanding of computer lingo and Add-ons and whatnot.

My post is a request for help as after I downloaded and installed 15.1 Isengard from the Official Kodi site, running all regular installs, it just starts up and kills instantly. I don't even have time to read the opening screen. This is a 7 year old Gateway with the 64 bit Vista OS. Just trying to give as much info as I can. I did look through about 2 hours of posts trying to find anything before I created my own. Also, does anyone have a little free time they could hold my hand and walk me through all I'll need to get this thing going? This is all totally new to me. Thank you so very much.

Usually in these cases it's hardware that is deficient in the gfx area. Supported hardware (wiki), your desktop might be good for spread sheets and a word processor, but is probably using shared graphics on the motherboard.

Thank you for the quick reply. It ran the latest versions of World of Warcraft with no problems. That's why I'm so confused. But if you say my comp is useless as far as getting this thing going, it just easier as I'm just going to buy the box. Any helpful hints or suggestions for that bad boy?

did you click on the supported hardware link and compare it with your computer's spec?

Is this the first time you have installed KODI? Or is it on top of an older installation?

Old hardware should be fine. I run my on an ancient Intel Core 2 Quad from that Vista era.

It is worth reading the Before Posting FAQ: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=42708

In there is tells you of the banned add-ons that can cause many crashes ( http://kodi.wiki/view/Banned_add-on ) and there are some crashes caused by extra controllers plugged in. Or out of date drivers.

You need to produce a debug log http://kodi.wiki/view/Debug_log/Easy as that will let us see what is actually crashing. And yes, I know that it is crashing and you can't follow the debug log steps... so scroll to section 3 and it tells you how to enable by hand.

I had this issue before and it was due to a ps3 controller I had connected to the computer, if you have one, try uninstalling the driver, if not, ignore

If you're still going ahead with this box, you might have a graphic slot or slot that will take a cheap graphic card, which would be the minimal set-up to enjoy Kodi. Check the hardware requirements for suggest gfx cards that might fit.
