DTS-MA / Dolby TrueHD Issues
#1
With a fresh Kodibuntu install, I'm having the inability to bitstream DTS-MA / DD TrueHD. I opted to try this route after running Kodi on Windows had the same issues with a bit less ability to troubleshoot.

Here's my current setup:

Kodi 15.1
HTPC w/ Intel Graphics 4000
HDMI out to a Classe Sigma SSP AVR

When I go to play an mkv with one of the associated formats, a few things happen:

Dolby TrueHD: Dolby TrueHD appears on my AVR, but with no bitrate associated and no audio.

DTS-MA: DTS-MA appears on the AVR, but with '2.0' (Indicates it's only 'seeing' 2 channels) and no associated bitrate and again no audio.

In both situations, if I 'fast-forward' the video I get a horrid static output until I stop the video. All other formats- Dolby, DTS, etc passthru just fine.

The only way I can get it to 'work' is if I disable passthru and then outputs PCM 7.1 @ 48khz to the AVR.

It's almost as if the AVR & kodibuntu aren't locking the same bitrate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We cannot help you without a Debug Log ... but (!) if the AVR recognizes DTS-MD / DolbyTrueHD ... he gets the infoframes correctly. Most likely nothing we can do ... as you did not say which SW you run, test with the latest OpenELEC 5.95.5 and see what happens.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Apologies for not posting a debug.log

Thanks for the cut log, which does not help at all - you have the very same issue on Windows I saw in your double post ... I think it's a problem with your receiver and we cannot do anything about it. As said in your double post, try with some commercial software like PowerDVD and see if it does DTS-HD MA at all.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Won't say anything against fritschs post...only one thing. The AVR is capable of HD sound formats in general. What might cause the issue....maybe the HDMI handshake won't work properly. Classé is a very rare product...will say, it's not very common (because of the price, I guess Wink ). So it might be, that it won't work with anything, which has an HDMI out.

If you don't get a nice playback while using OpenELEC 5.95.5, you should maybe report at Classé and/or Rotel and maybe they will fix something in the firmware. As Classé is listed at Rotel homepage as well.

Just as an aside, many "boutique" audio brands have particularly bad HDMI implementations, simply because of the intense engineering demands it takes to implement, test, and workaround all the non-standard HDMI devices out there. Often, they're a little rough around the edges compared to "common" brands like Sony or Yamaha or Denon/Marantz, who have far greater resources to spend on developing cutting-edge AVRs. That's not to say that a brand like Classe doesn't have world-class audio quality - but the video side is another story, and a lot of similar smaller brands have been caught by the reality of the constantly shifting video market.

I'd try OE as suggested. I'd also try some other PC with HDMI output to see if you can get it working at all via a PC source.

^ Spot on, in fact you take brands like Anthem, they haven't released a product without HDMI issues since they started releasing HDMI products.
A recent MRX-300 had to be sold off due to it having issues with multichannel PCM, same bug in latest 310/510/710 2 years later.

Might want to confirm it's not a known bug on somewhere like AVSforums

Wanted to give a follow-up here - The problem is indeed originating from the Classe Sigma. I borrowed an Integra Processor to test and from my Kodibuntu box, had no issues processing both hidef formats. Upon contacting Classe, they mentioned it sounded like a hardware problem and are shipping me a new unit to test.

Either way, appreciate the feedback from all.

I'm very curious if the new unit will work. Could you please report back?

Absolutely.

Update - New unit arrived and both DTS-MA / Dolby TrueHD work without issue. It looks like it must have been a hardware problem with the unit itself.
