Tweaks I would like to make to my HTPC setup
#1
Hi,

I've got 2 Windows 7 machines running Kodi. One PC is in the lounge, the other is in the bedroom. I use Mediaportal TV server and everything works really well. There are a final few 'tweaks' I want to do just just really sort out a few small issues and was hoping you guys could help...

1) I want to be able to sync my TV series and movies between computers so 'watched' and progress indicators automatically update. Also the ability to resume TV series and Movies between computers (basically I want it to do the same as recorded tv). Can this be done? What's the easiest way?

2) I currently use windows MCE remotes with Kodi. Works with no problems, but I would really like to have 1 TV remote with 'learning functions' so I can control Kodi and My LG TV. I do not need anything complicated or over the top, just a decent TV remote that will function in Windows with Kodi that I can also use to turn on / off and volume on my TV aswell. Any recommendations?

3) I really want the ability to remotely set TV recordings using either my iPhone / ipad etc. I want to be able to do this wherever I am as often I will travel to a friends house, go abroad etc and see a tv programme I would like to record but end up missing the show. Is there a simple way to do this? I'm not interested in using my iPhone as a tv remote, viewing my films, tv shows or music... I just want to be able to see the epg and record whatever I want when I'm not at home?

Thanks.

1) Mysql or emby.
2) Logitech Harmony. Pretty much any model except the 300 (which isn't as configurable).
3) 2 out of 3 isn't bad.

I really have no idea what I am talking about. Proceed with caution. I confuse easily. And drink. A lot.

The harmony is nice as mentioned, however some smaller budget items may work as you wish - like FLIRC and a DirecTV style remote. Total together would cost you like 35 bucks. (U.S. of course)

You guys are brilliant. Thanks.

Those Logitech remotes look really nice... Mind you they cost a fair amount! That shouldn't be a problem though!

As for getting the epg to sync to my iPhone etc Mediaportal has a plugin called 'ipimp' I'm tempted to try out. I've watched a couple of YouTube tutorials on it... Looks ok. I will see how I get on.

Harmonies are great - I use a One in the lounge, and a couple of (very cheap 2nd hand, years old) 525's elsewhere. The old ones have the same functions (my One's IR only), the One is prettier, has a touchscreen and is / was much more expensive. Even that's out of date now, but for IR they all work the same, old and new.
