v13 Upgrading from Gotham to latest version Acer Aspire Revo
#1
Hi,

Upgrading from Gotham 13.2 to the latest build and wanted to know I'm doing the right thing. I'd like to keep my settings but it doesn't look as if this is possible - am I right?

I've got an Acer Aspire Revo which should be running an Intel Atom 230 Processor with integrated NVIDIA ION Graphics. Its currently set up with XBMC Live so I now believe I need kodibuntu?

I've downloaded the 15.1 Kodibuntu ISO from the download page.

I got slightly confused with the last point in the prerequisites, I don't think I need the Ubuntu IOS. I just want to boot straight into Kodi, Am I right that I don't need the last point?

I've used Lili to create a bootable version of the KodiBunto ISO
Persistence is set to 0
Hide created files on key is selected
Format key is set to Fat 32
Enable launching Linux live is also selected

When I select a source there is a message that states
Quote:This linux is not in the compatibility list
However, Linuxlive USB creator will try and use the same install parameters as for

Unbuntu 15.04 'Vivid Velvet' (Unity)(64 bit)

Not sure if any of that is an issue?

When I insert the USB and boot from it I get a black screen with a flashing white cursor. No keyboard commands seem to work.

Its sounds very similar to the AMD issue but I'm not using an AMD processor, and the fix sounds very complicated!

Thanks for any help.

I have no idea what Lili is but if you are trying to create this from a recent version of Ubuntu then you should be using the Startup Disk Creator program that's included in Ubuntu and most variations. Unfortunately, it appears Ubuntu's site is down as I write this, but when it comes back up I think the instructions you want are at https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/...-on-ubuntu but without seeing the page I can't be sure.

I used to use a Revo with nVidia graphics, and I always just installed the most recent LTS version of Ubuntu (currently 14.04) and then installed Kodi on top of that. I found that I always had trouble if I tried to use one of the packages that included XBMC or Kodi, but no problem at all installing Ubuntu first and the Kodi. Of course you have to make sure the nVidia graphics drivers are installed and that VDPAU is enabled in Kodi's settings. Also there are other tweaks that may be needed if you want to enable passthrough audio (you want to use ALSA, not Pulseaudio. particularly if you are trying for 5.1 channel sound or better) or to use an infrared remote to bring up Kodi from the Ubuntu desktop. A package like Kodibuntu probably takes care of most or all of that for you (I would hope, anyway) but the trick is to get it installed and working in the first place.

I don't use Unbuntu on my PC's. I'm trying to create a Kodibunto bootable usb drive on my windows PC then use it to install Kodibunto on my Revo. As you've highlighted installing Ubuntu and then Kodi seems to have a lot more steps. I've always used XBMC Live as a single install.

I'm now wondering if its just that the Revo can't boot from USB, I did used to have an external drive attached to it. I'll try creating a bootable CD-Rom

For the note....Kodibuntu and XBMCbuntu are botrh based on Ubuntu OSs. It's Lubuntu in this case. So you use Ubuntu on your PCs Wink

But...ragarding to this:

Do I get this right?...You have already XBMCbuntu Gotham 13.2 installed and want to upgrade to the actual stable version?

Note: The below is at own risk, as I don't know for sure, if this old piece or hardware is capable of running Kodi 15 very well!!!!

If I'm right and you have XBMCbuntu already installed, then I would make a backup from your Userdata folder and safe it anywhere. After this is done you could SSH (wiki) in or use the terminal from desktop mode and enter:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y

If this command gets you to Kodi 14.x, then repeat the command once again and you should end up in Kodi 15.

After all went fine you could check if your settings are like before. If not, you can overwrite the userdata folder and reboot.

Be aware that not all addons, which used to work for Gotham, will work on Kodi, too.
