Raspberry Pi 2 - first boot problem
#1
Hello everyone, I am new here...and first of all, sorry for my bad english Big Grin

The Raspberry Pi 2 is my first device off this kind so I am totally NOOB
I bought it yesterday..also bought SD card class 10, 32 GB
http://usercontent2.hubimg.com/8882827.jpg

I have installed with my laptop OS OpenELEC by watching this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8N-jE_qkP4

Then i connected everything to my Phillips TV ...turn RPI on, but he didn't boot..RED and GREEN lights on him are ON all the time but my TV is telling me that there is no video signal on that HDMI port...I tried with my phone charger and also by connecting it to TV's USB port

I didn't have USB keyboard so I only connected USB mouse to RPI...is that a problem maybe...or I didn't install correctly OS...any ideas??
When I plug my card to laptom it opens right away, and I can acces all the files...so it isn't broken

I also tried with this https://www.raspberrypi.org/help/noobs-setup/
That didn't help too..I don't think that RPI is broken, it's new and it gives me RED and GREEN light all the time...so if anyone can please help me

If the green LED isn't flashing it can't find anything valid on the SD. What brand is the SD? From the picture it looks like one of those no name ones.
What Power Supply do you have?

SD is from Ebay, cheap one, I have to admitt
But it worked great on my Note 2
Power suply is also from my Note 2...I tried using charger and using USB port on my TV
What do you think about this instalation...should I tried with this one??

SD cards are fickle things. I have a cheap SD card here that will only work in certain devices. It won't work in a Raspberry Pi at all. One of my Linux PCs is fine with it, the other is not. It won't work on my laptop but will on the wife's Chromebook.

Get a decent SD card from a trusted supplier. Lots of branded ones on eBay are fakes. Go to a store and get it.
HTPCs: 2 x Chromecast with Google TV

It is either the SD or the Power Supply. You just need some quality ones for the RPi. They are not expensive though! You don't even need Class 10. Class 6 are fine too. Sandisk, Samsung. Power Supply should be 5V 1.8 - 2A Output. Check yours.

And regarding power feed:
Make sure you use the shortest possible USB cable and preferred is a USB cable intended for charging. Many cheap no-name cables have very thin wires inside and drop enough voltage so the Pi won't work properly.
