I have been using tvheadend to record some OTA programs (US ATSC). I have been playing the files in my raspberry (openelec) and noticed closed captions are missing. If I extract the captions (srt file) then I can see the captions. Do I always need to extract captions before playing the files? What would be the best choice to extract captions?

Have you enabled "Enable parsing for closed captions" in settings?
