Linux Open Elec VS Windows 10
#1
I am currently running Kodi 14.2 on Windows 8.1. I am debating upgrading to Windows 10 versus Open elec prior to moving to Kodi 15. I will also want to use a browser on this PC and Team Viewer or something that allows me to connect remotely with my android tablet. Will my recordings move over? What are the pros and cons of moving to Open Elec? I have a Lenovo Celeron 1.6 ghz with 4gig of ram. Thanks for your thoughts.

Pros:
- You don't need a virus scanner
- You get latest and greatest from Opensource world
- You don't have Microsoft spy on you (Windows 10 is really, really evil in that regard ... including microsoft remote connection by default :-())
- You can install a browser also

Cons:
- No real netflix / amazon prime / whatever DRM support - so no content
- You cannot play games
- No idea about your recordings.

Do the following:
Install OpenELEC onto a second USB drive and try it out ...
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Or install ubuntu and let kodi start at boot. Or perhaps even kodibuntu.
Netflix- check
Playing games - half check (not as many games as windows, but theres steam)

Though there is still an, annoying, advantage to Netflix on Windows. You get 5.1 audio in the Windows Netflix app (and some Android apps). In browsers you are limited to stereo - which means in Linux. Also some browsers are limited to 720p I believe?.

Is amazon prime available in any OS on Kodi? I do not do games so that is not a concern.

Look into the chrome launcher add on. I watch Netflix and Amazon on my Celeron chrome box in openelec.
