HEVC X265
#1
I upgraded from XBMC to KODI so that I could play X265 files but some of them seem to stutter very badly (I don't have any problems with very high bit rates in other formats).

Some friends have told me that X265 is not quite perfect yet, is this just an issue with X265 or is it a settings issue?

Thanks.

You need version 16 beta to get hevc 8 bit support through hw acceleration (supported hw needed). hevc 10 bit suppot is currently investigated - testing builds are linked somewhere here on the forum.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

You may have playback issues regardless, depending on your computer specs. x265/hevc is very cpu-intensive. If the files play back in another media player (VLC, the video player built into Windows 10, etc.) it should work in Kodi... I'm in the process of converting my media to x265 and everything plays back in Kodi just fine (including 10-bit), but I have a pretty solid HTPC with a Broadwell i7, 16gb RAM, GeForce GTX 980, etc.
Windows 11 Pro, Kodi 20, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32gb RAM, nVidia 3080 ti

I have found my old A6 AMD APU (AMD 6530 IIRC) - can actually play 720p hevc stuff just fine (Jarvis B2). This surprised me given how CPU intensive it's supposed to be.
Addons I wrote &/or maintain:
OzWeather (Australian BOM weather) | Check Previous Episode | Playback Resumer | Unpause Jumpback | XSqueezeDisplay | (Legacy - XSqueeze & XZen)
Sorry, no help w/out a *full debug log*.
