HDMI and Analog Audio to Amp's Zone-2
#1
I'm trying to figure out a way to have both
- full 5.1/DD/DTS and 7.1/HD-Audio via HDMI (movies in Home Theater aka Zone-1)
- Analog audio to Onkyo 607's Zone-2 (for music only) on patio but also in Home Theater if wanted ... party mode?

It's been a while since I ran analog audio (via RCA jacks) from HTPC. I went to SPDIF long ago, and for a while now, just HDMI. Reasoning was obvious for movies and I figured music sounded better over digital anyway (back when video was VGA).

However, I now have finally installed my speakers on patio (Zone-2) ... and Onkyo 607 want's only analog audio for that. So, in addition to HDMI from AMD-5670 video card, I connected analog audio to green speaker jack. I also installed the enhanced VIA drivers into Windows7-64.

I hoped the HTPC might output both concurrently like my TimeWarner DVR does (works fine in Zone-1 and Zone-2 concurrently). But it wasn't working.

I was looking at these links:

http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.p...edirect=no

http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=192480

And then I remembered that in my Kodi v14.2 install, it has TWO selections for audio output. So, instead of having them both set to WASAPI: HDMI-AMD ... I set the first one to WASAPI:Speakers (VIA HD-Audio).

It wasn't working at first (like audio was "asleep"), but then it started working. Is this what this option is for? Am I using it right?

If so, the only draw-back I see it that "analog audio" (non-bitstreamed) or non-PassThrough audio is carried over analog RCA cables (which I can live with).

Just want to do this the right-way and maybe this thread can help others with similar amps.

Software: Windows-10 Pro, Kodi v16.1

It's kinda working.

HOWEVER, sometimes ...

I start Kodi fresh. There are no Interface sounds. MP3s/WAVs play (but only to Zone-2). Almost like an Amp problem, but it's not, because ...
if I play a DTS MKV movie it works fine. Stop it and Interface sounds are back, and MP3s (and WAVs, etc.) play concurrently to Zone-1 and Zone2.

I've tried making various adjustments to Windows Sound Devices, but nothing helps reliably.
