I would like to add a search function to the home page, is there a tutorial on how to do this?

You can find a detailed guide to all skin settings here.

To add a custom category, go to System > Skin Settings > Home > Add More Categories.

• Enable Custom 1 / 2 / 3 or 4.
  
• Choose Favourite to add an item from your favourites or choose Preset to add a built in skin preset (this will do I think).
  
• I recommend you use the Global Search add-on to search through all sections of Kodi.
  
• Click Path and go to Programs > Select Add-on to choose the Global Search add-on.
  
• Choose a custom icon for your category if you wish.
  
• Choose a custom panel if you wish.
  
• Add Focus and No Focus category images (they are the names of the categories). I have added the search images below.
  
• Choose a single or multi image background if you wish.
