wtv files not showing up
#1
I have some wtv files of movies I recorded using WMC saved on my external hard drive but they don't show up in Kodi.
How do I get these wtv files to show up in Kodi?

Add the external hard drive as a watched folder to windows media center. When you add this folder is best to add it as a network share rather than using the local path.

Do the files have to be in a folder? How do I add as a network share?

Yes, they have to be in a folder. I guess the first thing to ask is: do these files show up in windows media center already?

I assume then that kodi is running on a different machine. The problem is you added the external drive location as a local drive rather than a network share. First create a network share for the folder containing these files (sharing with everybody) - because your kodi client machine needs to have access to this shared folder. Then add the network share path to wmc as a recorded tv folder.

The easier way to have them show up in Kodi is to add the network drive as a source in Kodi, name the files using the naming conventions that Kodi prefers, and then update the library. The shows will then show up in the "TV Shows" section.

You can reach more about how to do that here:

I welcome comments and suggestions for the Kodi (XBMC) Set-up Guide that I wrote.

You're welcome. That is really the best way to archive recorded TV and have them around forever. Smile
