Win Help with migrating my current setup
#1
Hello all,

I need help with migrating from my current WMC setup. Here is what I have working and what i want to accomplish:

My HTPC Computer, has wmc and a Ceton Cablecard for the Live TV, I installed Serverwmc and Kodi both working great on this one computer. I have the TV tab and EPG guide is good and the TV is working. I want to mimic my previous setup where I have Xbox 360 as media extenders. I am not interested in using the Xbox's anymore, I tried testing this by taking a laptop that is on the same network and I installed Kodi on it and configured it, when I click on the TV tab and go to Channels the list populates correctly, but when I click on a channel, a small box pops up and say "Recorded TV" path not found or something to that affect. I did look at the serverwmc log's and I see where my laptop is trying to connect but the path could not be found. I assume it try's to get to that path for caching purpose's. So basically what I am looking for is to get the rest of my TV / Extenders working, I just bought the Nexus Player and would like to use that as an extender. And yes I did search the forums and google search this. And most of what I found is either using tvheadend or mySQL to share, but nothing really geared towards what I want to do or how to do it. Can some point me in the right direction on how to get this done ? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

You have to share the recorded tv folder on your server. The clients will need to have that path set in Kodi with the username and password to connect.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, finally got it all set up. Now i need one more help. Same issue "Recorded TV" path not found. With this message, what I am trying to do is setup the Nexus Player to stream live tv from another house I have. I put in my public ip address in the pvr wmc client from where this currently working, I did a port forwarding on my router (9080). It does get the EPG and channel line up and the Recorded TV path not found. Can this be done, am I missing something. Thanks again for your feedback.

All live and recorded tv are accessed over file sharing so port 9080 is not enough (that's only for metadata about what channels, recordings, timers etc are setup)

So you need to be able to establish a sharing/smb connection. It might be safer to create a vpn tunnel between your houses rather than do port forwarding?

One other option is I think we have an experimental option to actually stream video data over the network rather than by file sharing but I can't dig up the details at the moment as I'm not at my pc

If you go to the http service tab you can enable http streaming for kodi, this should enable you to access streams from your other house. However in this mode fast forward and rewind don't work. Also, with this enabled, all your kodi clients will be forced to use http streaming when this is turned on.
