that's what the web(http)server is for, it 'just' need to be extended to feature configuration for xbmc's xml's, it is planned by darkie.

(ps! in my optinion, full vnc would just be overkill and bloat, it would be really silly to implement, plus think of resources it would take).

xfree86? noooo. sorry x11 is just such a horrible mess i'd rather we stayed well clear of it.

Huh as frodo said some posts ago, it's a media center not a pc. i agree with this simple concept, because that's the key if we wanna be successfully with xbmc
windragz
it difficult to break 2048 bit as try to find a sock at morning, it's just matter of time.

please use the search button.

but adding vnc would just be bloat maybe as a standalone app but certainly not as part of a "media" center.

Thumbs Up
i don't think realvnc (remote computer management) is open source - but i'm sure there's an open source alternative. how about adding this ability to xbmc?

remotly controlling my computer from my xbox would be so sweet! if it worked fantastic you could even be able to play pc games (as i'm talking about controlling it over lan). but i mainly want the ability to do regular computer tasks, like surfing the web (yeah, i know there's a lameass xbox-app for this).

remotly controlling the computer through lan will open a new perspective to the xbox...

xbmc is a media player/center!, it's not a os or a thin-client. why would anyone want vnc code inside xbmc?, use xbox-linux instead! Huh

not the same thing, many set-on-top boxes have weather, news, etc. but none have "remote control of my home computer" Image
"easy implemented"? then you code it?, i'm sure i speak for eveyone in team-xbmc  that we will not code vnc for xbmc ourselves

hi,

maybe it's a good idea to build in a terminal server or something? like winvnc you can use the java build maybe? so people can literally control all functions of xbmc on their pc or pda (wirelessly with your lazy ass on the couch!! Smile)!

don't know if it's possible, but it would be very nice though!

nah, you dont want to control your pc from the xbox, do you? use your pda with vnc! what we want to see is control your xbox from your pc! not with xml but by terminal. is it possible to build in some sort of terminal server in vnc?

i agree with gamester17, if the webserver had more features and could control the most of the functions in xbmc it would be more flexible than a vnc or terminal server-solution, and people wouldnt see as much need for them.

when more functions are added to the webserver (nice to hear that it's planned by darkie) i'll be glad to make a pocket pc-application that takes use of them.

i made this windows-application a while back:
http://www.geocities.com/grundir4/xbmr/

what i would like to see the most in the webserver is:
-be able to see what song/movie is playing
-volume control
-better playlist-control support.
