I am trying to figure out how to get subtitles from recorded TV shows. I used to get them when I was watching through windows media center, when I pressed mute.

I'm not sure if kodi supports closed captions in wtv files. Have you tried enabling them from the OSD?

Sorry for the late reply, I forgot to star this thread so I missed the notifications. I just happened to check back and see you promptly replied.

So this is a limitation with Kodi not supporting Closed captioning with wtv files?

I tried to enable OSD but nothing happens. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or if it is just not supported.

Thanks for reply btw

Right, Kodi doesn't do CC with wtv files (at least last time I checked).

Edit:
It might be possible to have serverwmc generate .srt files for the wtv files (I assume kodi would use those for wtv playback if they existed) but Kodi won't use srt files for live-tv streams (again, last I checked).

I hardly watch any live shows anyways since I am so used to skipping commercials.

Thanks for the continued development! I would love to see that option in a future release as time allows of course Smile

Still waking up after new years. @skarragallagher, I forgot that a solution to your problem is to generate .srt files with a free program called ccextractor. Check out this thread to see how to use it with serverwmc:

that's the reason I never bothered having serverwmc do the srt files itself.
