4k, Is it supported?

I just learned about kodi from a friend, so i am deciding which platform to use for a kodi media device, i posted a few tablets i have laying around to possibly use, but i was recommended highly to not use them, but noone told me i shouldnt use my Surface Pro 3 tablet... so its an unsure device for this setup....

My question is this, i am planning on using this device in my living room and my girlfriends house mostly, both TV's are 4k samsung tv's... is the Raspberry Pi 2 the best device for this, as a few recommend that i use that for my kodi device, or would something like the Amazon Fire TV 2 be a better option since it has built in 4k capabilities already

I was pricing out the parts for the Raspberry Pi 2 build and after buying it all, i would be spending about $20 more than the Amazon Fire TV 2 setup off the shelf...

The Surface Pro 3 works fine as a Kodi platform , but not for 4K playback, i don`t think the GPU has 4K H265 decoding capabilities ( nor HDMI 2.0 for that matter). Neither does the Pi2. Nvidia Shield would be my choice for a 4K ready device with a beefy CPU and other bells and whistles. Kodi does support 4K in version 16.0 which is in beta stage right now and should be finished quite soon.

PS : Saw your other thread, the XOOM is too old and will probably work like crap because of the old and weak CPU , Nexus 7 might be an option with some limitations but you`re going to need a MHL Micro-USB to HDMI adapter since there is no HDMI port on it and you kinda need some way to get video out of it to your TV Smile . Note 4, well, i presume you need you need your phone to do, well, what all of us do with our phones, not being stuck on a TV stand Smile . But , like the Nexus, it may work with some limitations. And when i say limitations, i`m talking about lack of 24p output , no DTS/AC3/ DTS-HD / Dolby True HD bitstreaming. And probably no 4K for both of them.

Unless the new Intel boxes are out (which I don't think they are), the NVIDIA Shield is probably your only really good option ATM, unless you want to build your own HTPC with a big graphics card.

Note that Amazon Fire TV 2 is not the right choice for 4K support with Kodi, (horrible support), read why not here: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=239126

Nvidia Shield TV or extremly new Intel Skylake are only two real options, see: http://kodi.wiki/view/Nvidia_SHIELD_TV and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skylake_(m...processors
