Howdy. Has anybody been able to route TV output (live or recordings) thru an internal firewire card? I want to 're-capture' a recording that for some reason didn't stop at the conclusion of the show, and now I've got a 17hr recording that is pretty much too big to do anything with -- so if I can recapture during playback I can stop at the right point in time and delete that humongous file.

Haven't tried to do what you're asking, but given what you want to do, you could just edit/split the wtv file with a video editing tool that can do wtv files couldn't you?
I've used handbrake to do this, though I'm sure there are others I've seen mentioned (windows live movie maker, dvrms toolbox, video redo to name a few)

To clarify, the problem is a) the resulting file is ~55GB in size, which will take forever to recode before I'm able to edit, and b) I really want to keep the host Win7 PC as pristine as possible with no 'extra' software -- hence wanting to capture the HD stream to my laptop and convert/edit there.

So there's no tool that can just arbitrarily split a wtv file in half etc so you could cut it down? Also you could run up a vm to do the work on that way you don't pollute your host computer

Thanks for the response scarecrow - nope, no tool that I'm aware of, and I'm a noob on VMing to the HTCP. At this point it's almost a philosophical point -- shouldn't XBMC/Kodi output go thru the firewire port on principle?

Probably best to take your question to somewhere in the forum where people are knowledgeable about such things, as it's not something we deal with in the pvr addon/backend area
