is it possible to show Video OSD stuff without starting video?
and the same for progressbar dialog box thing?

you can create a custom keymap to bring up the video osd when nothing is playing:
<f1>ActivateWindow(videoosd)</f1>
to test the progress dialog:
<f2>ActivateWindow(progressdialog)</f2>
