As the best supported file formats is MP4 container file format with H.264 video codec and AAC audio codec, if your DVD are home-made ones, there are many free DVD Rippers such as Handbrake, Format Factory, VidCoder, MediaCoder, etc. If your DVD are commercial ones with copy or region protection, you can first use Makemkv to freely copy/backup commercial DVD into a large MKV file on your local computer and then use Handbrake to convert MKV to Kodi supported file formats. If you are looking for a standalone application to rip and convert DVD to Kodi, I think Pavtube BDMagic is a good choice, however you will have to pay for that.
