Last night I noticed that for all OTA HD stations, audio was working fine- and audio was synch'd precisely to the video. But for every channel transmitting a non HD signal, the audio was either completely absent or was badly out of sync with the video (video was fine). This does not happen consistently but I've noticed that if there is a problem it will be with the non HD channels.

Any idea why I would have this discrepancy?

You might have to supply the Kodi guys a sample file, so they can see what Kodi doesn't like about it.
