v17 Kodibuntu, upgraded to 15.2 - no DVD playback.

Question
Hi folks,

[Kodibuntu, with Isengard - 15.2, default Confluence]

Just wondering if anybody would have any suggestions as to why DVD playback would suddenly stop working.

That is I was able to play DVD's but this evening played one DVD, then haven't been able to play any since.

Tried rebooting system, without success.

The system 'detects' that a disc is in the drive, i.e. the "Play Disc" option appears in the main confluence menu.

Cheers.

I guess we need a Debug Log

No problem, I'll follow the advice from the link you provided and I'll get a copy of the log.

It'll be tomorrow now as it's past 23:00 here.

Also, I've worked out that it is not a faulty drive as I am able to boot a live DVD.

Occasionally rebooting does allow me to play a DVD.

Hello again,

I followed the directions in the link you provided and uploaded a log using the simple method.

Steps taken,

1. enabled debugging
2. rebooted kodi
3. placed DVD in drive
4. "Play Disc" appeared in Confluence menu
5. Movie did not play, (auto play is enabled)
6. Selected "Play Disc" manually and pressed enter, (used attached keyboard), movie still did not play
7. Ejected disc from drive manually, (load / eject) button on Confluence menu does not work.
8. Uploaded log.

The URL for the log is below.

http://xbmclogs.com/pp3iyxrhf

Thankyou for looking into this for me.

Note: Audio play back from CD works with this drive, with autoplay.

Rebooting kodi occasionally allows DVDs to be played successfully.

More information that may be relevant after perusing the logs, pertinent lines appear to start at line 241 of the log.

Output of udisks --dump (with listings for optical drive only)

Can you try with v16rc1 (unstable PPA) or a nightly?

I'd be happy to try with v16rc1, is there a listing of the repo somewhere to add to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/****.list

Cheers.

Edit: actually there is an entry in the list already just needs uncommenting.

Hi wsnipex,

Same again unfortunately.

Upgraded to kodi 16.0 rc1, it also pulled down a later version of libbluray in the process.

Log URL is below

http://xbmclogs.com/pxo4ssqkz

Lines from log as per your earlier message, are 245 to 250.

Code:
21:00:22 T:140622262786112   DEBUG: UDisks: Querying available devices
21:00:22 T:140622262786112   DEBUG: UDisks: Is not able to mount DeviceUDI /org/freedesktop/UDisks/devices/sda5: IsFileSystem false HasFileSystem  IsSystemInternal true IsMounted false IsRemovable false IsPartition true IsOptical false

What's really odd though, is that under kodi 14.0 (initial install), then kodi 15.2 (first upgrade), is that DVDs would play successfully, though intermittently. Sometimes a reboot was required.

Further more I can play Audio CDs without problem, not sure if that's useful though.

Huh As I have been able to play DVDs occasionally, is it possible a config file has become corrupted? Just a thought.

Hi again wsnipex,

I have since followed up on the rest of your suggestion and upgraded to the nightly build.

Unfortunately DVD / Bluray playback is still not working.

Log URL is http://xbmclogs.com/puulaoolg

As you indicated earlier the DVD / Bluray drive appears not to be recognised as an optical drive.

From the most recent log, lines 248 - 250

Code:
10:11:37 T:139672422516800   DEBUG: UDisks: DaemonVersion 1
10:11:37 T:139672422516800   DEBUG: UDisks: Querying available devices
10:11:37 T:139672422516800   DEBUG: UDisks: Is not able to mount DeviceUDI /org/freedesktop/UDisks/devices/sda5: IsFileSystem false HasFileSystem  IsSystemInternal true IsMounted false IsRemovable false IsPartition true IsOptical false

Below is the output of "udisks --dump", edited to only show the output for the DVD / Bluray drive.

Code:

Of interest to me are these lines towards the bottom of the entry. I'm not a guru but they indicate the optical capabilities of the DVD / Bluray drive.

Code:
media:                     optical_dvd
      compat:                  optical_bd optical_bd_r optical_bd_re optical_cd optical_cd_r optical_cd_rw optical_dvd optical_dvd_plus_r optical_dvd_plus_r_dl optical_dvd_plus_rw optical_dvd_r optical_dvd_ram optical_dvd_rw optical_mrw optical_mrw_w

Hopefully one of you folks who is far more knowledgable than I will be able to shed some light on this problem.

Cheers.

I just upgraded today from helix, boy am i sorry I did, dvd playback not working anymore for me either. I guess I'll turn on my debugging tomorrow as well to see if I can find anything useful. So glad I'm not the only one, but I guess that doesn't really solve the problem.

That's when it stopped working for me, upgrading from Helix.
