Backstory:
Previously I was using a Raspberrypi model B+ as a file server (via Samba) with two 4TB external hard drives (NTFS) plugged into it. My client of choice is an Asus Chromebox (OpenELEC-Generic.x86_64-6.0.98-fritsch), both of which were wired to my router.

For a single client solution this setup worked flawlessly. However, it did not seem to have sufficient throughput for multiple clients so I replaced the Rasperrypi with the following:

I pulled the two externals from their enclosures, reformatted them to EXT4, and reloaded them from backups. I installed Linux Mint, served the files up via Samba, and updated my client’s library.

My throughput "seemed" to have improved significantly. I can now FF/RW normally without the picture just freezing. I can now also stream Blu-ray quality video to my Raspberrypi 2's, via wireless, without hiccups.

Problem Encountered: When playing video my Chromebox will stop to "Buffer". The problem is not consistent and sometimes occurs multiple times in a row, and other times not at all. And there does not appear to be any correlation between SD/HD content. I never saw video "Buffer" even once in the past year of use with the previous setup. Confused

Since nothing on my client has changed (No updates to OpenELEC/Kodi), it appears that my changing the file server has introduced the problem. Can anyone provide any tips in regard to troubleshooting this issue? Advice on testing throughput or settings I should review?

Thank You for any input!
Sleepy tldr: Any tips on troubleshooting hardware/network due to “Buffering” issue?

(I realize it may be more appropriate to seek assistance from the Mint/Ubuntu communities, but I figured I would try here as well.)
