would there be a way to install the Jarvis RC's or nightlys of Krypton on either rasbian or an ubuntu flavoured Pi distro ( mate, xubuntu etc )? i tried the normal adding the unstable ppa thru xubunu for pi and came across unmet dependencies that would not install, thinking this being ther eis only the x86 for them and not arm.

i am currently running openelec 17 nightlies but am also wanting a system for desktop use as well

No pi support from ubuntu ppa.
No one is making nightly pi builds for raspbian.

So, options are to stick with a stable build, stick with OpenELEC, or compile yourself.

Personally, I'd continue with OpenELEC for kodi and get a separate sdcard for raspbian and desktop use.

thanks popcornmix i was hoping to avoid the dual sdcards. will be going with option number 2 which is getting a second pi2
