ServerWMC - LiveTV Not Streaming (Logs)
#1
Good Morning,

My HDHomeRun Prime device finally bit the dust during a storm after years of excellent use. I had some trouble getting Win 8.1 WMC to pick up the replacement device so I simply spun up a new Win 8.1 MCE machine in Hyper-V Host, just like I had with the previous build.

I have everything setup as I believe it should be. Kodi clients connect, pull down guide, channel icons, etc. but when they go to play a channel, it spins for a few seconds then stops. The HDHomeRun AddOn for Kodi works fine, so I recognize that it must be something in my ServerWMC configuration. Please find below the most recent log when attempting to open a channel. Any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Looks to me like it may be a sharing issue on the server. It doesn't appear that Kodi is able to access the TS (live streaming) file. Try browsing to your recorded TV folder in Kodi through the Video -> Files option and make sure you can get there.

Do recorded shows work?

Also, please restart serverWMC, then try to access a live channel. Please post the full log to pastebin and put a link here. This will allow folks to see your configuration.

It is definitely a sharing problem. It looks like your client is an openelec device, but it doesn't look like you have set credentials for this device to get to access to your windows machine using smb. So go to the 'folders' tab in swmc and enter the windows login that swmc is running under. They try again. If you still can't connect, then like sbthomas says, give us the whole log on pastebin.com after you try to start a live stream.

Thank you for your reply. You were correct & it was a Network Share issue. It became apparent when I tried to navigate to the share from the OpenELEC Kodi box. Thank you for your prompt assistance!

Thank you all for your help earlier. I was able to get one OpenELEC Kodi box working for about 5 minutes & now it's back down. I was able to get Kodi working by navigating through File Manager to the Recorded TV Network folder & typing in the domain server admin credentials. This allowed one TV to work.

I then attempted to enter these credentials into ServerWMC in the use credentials for SMB section. After doing this, nothing is working including the original box I got up & running. I'm guessing it's a Network Share issue, I just can't seem to fix it. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

In the folders tab, try replacing the server machine name used in the path to the ip address of the server instead.

Problem has now been successfully resolved. For anyone else that has this issue, the instructions below will get the "share" setup correctly. The challenge is that the typical way of sharing a folder is not permitted for Recorded TV on Windows 8.1.

Navigate to your Recorded TV folder
•Right click on it and choose properties
•Click the sharing tab
•Click on Advanced Sharing
•Check “Share this folder”
•Click the permissions button
•Click add
•Type anonymous in the box and click ok. If you want the remote computer to be able to delete TV shows click the change box, otherwise leave it at the default of Read (see figure below).

•Click OK twice
•Go to the security tab
•Click the edit button
•Click add
•Type anonymous in the box and click OK. If you want the remote computer to be able to delete TV click the modify box, otherwise leave it at the default (see figure below).
•Click OK then close

The next step is to edit the local computer policy to allow anonymous access to the share we just created.
•Click Start and then type gpedit.msc in the search box and hit enter.
•Expand Computer Configuration
•Expand Windows Settings
•Expand Security Settings
•Expand Local Policies
•Click on Security Options
•Double click on “Network access: Shares that can be accessed anonymously”
•Type Recorded TV
•Click OK
•Double click on “Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares” and ensure it is set to disabled.
•Close the local computer policy
•Reboot

•In ServerWMC, navigate to the Folders tab, & click the Reset button.
•Enter the network path to the new share you just created, ie: \\SERVER\Recorded TV
•As the share you created allows anonymous access, there is no need to check & enter credentials for the SMB path.

Thank you to everyone for getting me onto the right track. ServerWMC works great as a virtual TV back end running on Hyper-V host.

Best-

Darren

Glad it's working but just a note that deleting recordings is done by ServerWMC not the client, are you sure you need "change" permissions on the share for deletions to work? It wouldn't make sense to me if that was the case
