I would love to be able to populate cast with names, roles and PICTURES.

I do that with no problems. But maybe I don't understand your issue?

I have the same question... when you add in an addon cast names (and roles) there's no way to "give" an url to show the thumbnail of each actor.
I also try to set this values into the database in actors "table" but seems not to be read by the addon.
