I would go with Wikipedia's wording, IMO. At least the basic idea (always the urge to tweak wording, I have...). It avoids "centers" and "theaters" in their wording:

To me centre/theatre both look and sound funny. Since I spell center as center, when I see centre what I hear in my head when I read it sounds something like sin-tree, and theatre like thea-tree. In Kodi itself it should be configurable. Under appearance international settings my Kodi has its language set to English and region set to USA, but I've seen favorites misspelled on a few screens in my Kodi. I'm a new Kodi user and still configuring my Kodi and learning what it's capable of, so maybe I haven't found the right place to set the version of English I use yet.

We can't help it that the Americas drifted away in language as well as politics after the 1700s LOL.
(Actually there are experts who say that the American accent is closer to how the English spoke at the time of colonisation, so who bloody knows which is right!)

The reason for this type of spelling in UK English is because the same like a huge portion of words in the english language, these words originally came from the French language. In fact the two words being discussed are spelled exactly the same in French as they are in UK English and have the same meaning in both languages.
The words are also similar in Italian and Spanish since they are also latin based languages. And even though the spelling is a little bit different, in both cases, for both words, the R still comes directly after the T.
Rightly or wrongly, unfortunately US English decided to change many of these type of things for some reason.

Well they do match better to the way it is pronounced, and it fits closer to the way other words with similar sound are written. (There are several of those words in my previous sentence)
