Best setup for using Kodi over internet?
#1
Hi

At home i have a powerfull server using Windows Server 2012 with mysql database, connecting and stream local is great. All sources is added using smb.
At my parents house i connect using vpn and thats where the problem starts.
I can see all films and tv-series but when streaming i get problem with buffering.

I got 300/100MBit and my parents have 100/100 and using FTP we have no problem with speed.

What will be the best way to solve this, is VPN and SMB any good for this?

SMB over the internet would probably work. I'm going to try this out myself soon.

WebDAV (wiki) might be a better alternative if your server supports it.

It works pretty inconsistent really over the net, thats why my company ditched it as it wasnt even good enough to grab open small autocad files and work on them and that was with a fast connection.

Then again maybe our IT are pathetic who knows Smile

Apparently using it with a VPN is the best way to do it.

Yeah i dont think any sane person would use SMB over the net without VPN but it still dosent really work well imho and from my experience.
