Hi all,
I've been using Kodi under Windows in my HTPC for many many years. I use a Logitech Harmony remote to control the whole thing and for this purpose, I emulate a MCE remote and also a MCE keyboard (have a look here: http://kodi.wiki/view/List_of_MCE_remote...te_Control), so I could control everything in Kodi using my Harmony remote.
A few weeks ago, I decided to change my HTPC engine so I bought a new one. The guy that I bought the hardware from suggested me to run Kodi under Ubuntu instead of Windows. In the beginning I was a bit reluctant, because I have never used any other OS than Windows, but finally I agreed. The guy was kind enough to install both Ubuntu (vers. 14.04) and Kodi.
The new HTPC case has an RC6 IR receiver (made by Wesena) and therefore came with a MCE remote (Philips RC 197) to control it.
So the first thing I did was to setup my Harmony remote exactly in the same way that I did with my previous HTPC: I emulated 2 MCE compatible devices: the remote and the keyboard… the result is half the expected: right now the Harmony remote has replaced the Philips MCE remote with no trouble at all. All the buttons in the original Philips remote has been emulated by the Harmony.
The problem came with the keyboard: although the Microsoft MCE Keyboard Remote (this one: http://kodi.wiki/view/Microsoft_MCE_Keyboard_Remote) uses the same IR protocol (RC6) than the MCE remote, it seems that Ubuntu does not recognize its commands… pretty strange, is not it?
I understand this has to be software related issue, but honestly I don't even know how to start to investigate the problem. Everything in this OS is new to me. I tried to read this very comprehensive topic: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=104541, but I didn't get the point at all.
I'm truly desperate. I'm sure that this keyboard must be compatible with Ubuntu, but I don't know what to do… pls pls pls, anyone could help me with this?
Thanks a lot.
P.S.: sorry for my poor English.
