Also created a ticket, so the dev team is aware of the issue and that someone is actively working on providing a patch (http://trac.kodi.tv/ticket/16638) to solve this for users experiencing the issue in their setup.

Is there any way to test this patch?
I can reproduce the problem every time on 4 setups.
Drives me crazy, I know how to fix it, but there is others who simply
stopped using Kodi due to this problem.

Thanks for the time you spent on fixing this problem!

Forget this. This guy saying he could do doesn't mean he will make this PR actually.
Guess he doesn't have time or even wasn't going to spend any time on this issue.

Only if afedchin or FernetMenta can take a look at this closer.

But because dual display setup with Kodi is more of an exception that a rule, I don't think they will spend time on this.
I don't think that this applies only to dual display set up.
just leave your AVR on another input or have it off when the PC reboots for what ever reason and you will be stuck with the same problem.

If I read all the stuff above, I think the following topic is also affected by the same code:

I'm having a similar issue with my Win10 desktop resizing after turning off the attached TV. Using a VNC connection you can see the TV (monitor) disapear from the device manager when the TV gets turned off. I was able to sort out the resolution issue by adjusting the "virtual" monitor's resolution to match that used by my TV by connecting using VNC when my TV is off and accessing the display settings.

The residual problem I have is that although Kodi looked fine once the TV turns back on, it doesn't adjust the refresh rate and is stuck at 60Hz which is the only refresh rate that is supported by the virtual monitor. If I close Kodi and restart it when the TV is on it will play fine as I'm guessing that Kodi rechecks the monitor's refresh rate capabilities.I tried the pin19 trick which although stopped my PC detecting the TV had turned off, it also prevented my PC detecting my TV on resume and gave me a blank screen. I've come up with a hack of a solution which involves using eventghost to close kodi and re-open it when the PC resumes from sleep or it detects that the monitor has been reconnected, which solves my judder issues but is far from elegant.

I've also ordered a knock-off HDMI Doctor for $25 which will hopefully present my TV's EDID whenever the PC is on and I won't need to keep restarting Kodi. It should hopefully also fix the occasional HDMI handshake issue where my TV doesn't get detected by my PC and I need to turn my TV on then off to get it detected.

I'll keep you guys posted.

still dealing with this problem. my workaround is to have Kodi exit after 30mins of no activity, and start it manually via remote command.

I have the same problem with Yamaha RX-V477 and Samsung UE46D6750. I've already download source code and successfully compiled it. I will try to find some time in next week to debug and find solution.

Hi, just wanted to test your fixes but this is all Kodi 17, isn't it?

I'm not ready yet to switch to 17 ;-)
Kodi 17.x running on Nvidia Shield, 1x KODIbuntu

Unfortunately this fix doesn't work for Jarvis. That is why only krypton is available.

Well I finally got my HDMI Doctor knock-off last month and it works as advertised keeping the TV's EDID info even when the TV switches off. The problem I faced was due to the fact that it is powered by the HDMI port meant it would lose the EDID information when the computer reset or went on standby. I found that I could prevent this problem by buying a HDMI - USB Adaptor which I connect to a spare USB port on the back of my HTPC. This needs to be connected between the HDMI Doctor and the TV not between the PC and HDMI Doctor as it seems to interfere with detecting the TV when the HTPC boots up.

Now the device is always powered and holds the EDID info. No more black screens or juddery playback Big Grin
