as cross platform open source software Kodi can't guarantee a DRM chain from disc to display, so content providers that insist on copy protection and anti piracy mechanisms likely won't provide required closed source parts. Technically it wouldn't be an issue at all to do this.

Anyway this thread is about archiving, which is easily achieved with makemkv.
