H.265 - MPC vs Kodi
#1
Help!
It's driving me crazy!

I can play H.265 files with MPC without stuttering. CPU use is about 30 to 40%.
In Kodi (doesn't matter the version, setting or the drivers I use), CPU use goes to 100% and it's a stutter-fest! No GPU based decoding.

The system is based on the AMD 5150/R3.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Unless you own a GTX 950/960, 10-bit hardware decoding of HEVC is not possible. You are playing HEVC files by software decoding, which will use your CPU exclusively.

Your problem with Windows sounds like a completely different issue.

I don't know what to tell you, besides being an "issue" within Kodi in Windows.
MPC/VLC work fine (LAV filter), OpenELEC works fine with official Classic and Milhouse builds.

Obviously, I don't need that kind of GPU power to decode what I intend to watch at 1080p, so... Where should I start looking to make Jarvis work normally in Windows?

Read the thread. People already gave you the answer.

The best way I could describe your situation would be this:

> Your CPU (in this case APU) is like a straw and you are trying to push a golf ball through it, you need a bigger straw.
> My CPU is like a sewer pipe, the golf ball don't touch the sides...(ah so many inappropriate innuendos to be used).

There may indeed be some sort of poor optimisation for your hardware within Kodi for Windows, but developers can't cater for everyone. There are some options available to fix your issue so take them onboard.

Guys, I always knew that the hardware hasn't the strength to play new video decoding techniques without struggling.
Derek, I'll gladly accept donations Smile

What was puzzling me is that one player could play the H.265 format without problems while Kodi couldn't - on Windows.
In Linux it's a different story - Kodi works fine using the OpenELEC distro. Shocking.
As levi.baker88 suggested, it might be an issue with optimization.

Anyway, I leave my story here so that other users can somehow benefit from it.

Thanks to everyone for your inputs!
