Kodi hangs when playing DVD from nas
#1
So my previous kodi install crashed and burned, bad HDD controller. I replaced the comp, asrock beebox nuc, with identical unit. Installed Ubuntu 15.10 and kodi (isenguard). 4gb ram, 120gb msata, wired gigbit LAN.

I am trying to play DVDs (for folder with audio and video ts folders in vob format) from a 3tb nas. This setup worked previously, but now the system hangs every time I launch a DVD. I just get the spinning circle and working in the lower right corner.

The old system had Ubuntu 14.0.4. And a older kodi. Was there some software change that I am missing regarding DVD play back?

I know the networking is solid it played an avi file over the network no problem.

Kodi 15.1 is outdated...and all those banned addons you have installed and you are using wouldn't help either Wink

And I never saw such a strange thing....

Why are you using an outdated Kodi from debian on a Ubuntu system? Why not installing Kodi stable from Kodi repo like explained here?:

There won't be any fix for Kodi 15.x anymore. So please upgrade to a newer version. And note, that we don't care if your banned addons will still work or not Wink

I wasn't talking about the addons .... Simply the DVD playback that I have had working before .... Now it no longer works

I installed kodi thru the Ubuntu software center .... So if it installed the wrong version I'll have to grab it from somewhere else I guess.

Uninstalled, and reinstalled thru the terminal as suggested above and it's now working.

Must have been a bad install

Yes, Ubuntu didn't grab Kodi 16 on its software center. So that might be a reason, why you got this outdated version.

I was referring to those addons, as those might be causing weird issues sometimes. So best remove the .kodi folder and try without them being installed. Sometimes that fixes it. You could made a backup of the .kodi folder with

Code:
mv ~/.kodi ~/kodi-bak

then you won't loose your installations and you can rename the folder again after you tried.

But we do care, as by our forum rules (wiki) we do not support any installation which is contaminated with such junk. So even if the issue appeared to be nothing to do with them, you'd be on your own to resolve any future issues if they remain in place.
