Android [Feature Request] Boost center channel when downmixing (port from OSMC)
#1
This is a feature I love in the Raspberry Pi versions of Kodi. It's on both OpenELEC and OSMC.
Basically when downmixing a 5.1 track to 2.0, you have to option to boost the center channel by a certain DB-value, to make dialogue much easier to hear.

I understand "Normalize levels on downmix"/Volume Amplification sort of does this, but I way prefer OSMS's implementation.

I believe it is now possible with Audio DSP add-ons. Unfortunately they are only available on certain platforms at the moment, but the plan is for them to support all platforms if possible. For example, Android currently doesn't come with any Audio DSP add-ons. Someday, though.

I looked through the Audio add-ons included in Windows, but none of them seemed to accomplish this. You had channel control, but only left/right channel.

Ned did not mean "Audio addons", but addons for "Audio DSP" (Audio Digital Signal Processing). Read stickies in this other forum:

Regardless, there are no yet a "Audio DSP" addon that does what you ask, but you could change your feature request to one more similar to this:

What you want is a new "Audio DSP" addon that achieves what you want, maybe chaining dynamic range compression & downmix.

"Audio DSP Basic Processor" does this. It's a bit confusing to set up, but the basic idea is:

Go into Settings -> System -> Audio output

Enable audio DSP add-ons.

It will say that no add-ons have been enabled yet, so it will take you to a list of ADSP add-ons.

select "Audio DSP Basic Processor" and make it enabled.

Play a video file

Bring up the on-screen-display menu and select the audio settings

Select audio DSP

Select "Speaker/output"

Select "Speaker gain"

and now you can turn up speakers individually.

This will apply to all videos and does not have to be set individually per-video.

This only gives me control over left and right channel.

SPMC is adding this feature to the next build, so I don't really need this for Android anymore.
