RPi as Kodi Client/SQL Server for Kodi DB
#1
Hi All,

I'm thinking of using a Raspberry as a mini SQL server & Kodi client, has it got enough grunt to do this? Also the server will need to be available 24/7 for the other devices to use the server while it's "sleeping". I'd also like to connect an ext HDD to it so I can use it like a NAS for my content.

I've looked into running an SQL server on NAS but they look like they're basically mini PC's and I'm looking for a 12v or less solution.

The idea is to move the DB from my main PC so it doesn't need to be on 24/7.

Cheers!

EDIT

I found an SQL server that supports ARM processes, will this work with KODI?

https://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4fre...4Free-ARM/

List of supported devices are in the link.

If so, will the speed of the flash storage be sufficent not to cause lag when loading Kodi? They are listed as 20MB/s, Network 60Mbps, SMB 5MB/s for the Raspberry Pi model A/B/A+/B+ ARM1176JZF 700MHz (overclock 800MHz - 1GHz).

I do something like this on a Pi 2 and Pi 3 - both run OSMC and in addition I have MySQL holding the shared Kodi databases on each.

SD card only installs, all media files are on a QNAP NAS.

Both are slave devices to the master MySQL server which is a Banana Pi with an attached SSD. On the occasions when I have tried out the DB on the R Pis all worked well.
