The International version of the Mi Box and the USA released version of the Mi Box are exactly the same model, that being - MDZ-16-AB

I've seen both and the only difference was the Plain Brown Box the International Version came in and the EU power supply plug.

They both get the same Firmware updates and yes the Mi Box is using the HDR capable AML S905X.

I've just done a retest of 4K HEVC test clips, and the Mi Box is not as reliable at all playing back a wide range of varied 4K HEVC clips vs my C2 running LibreELEC Krypton.

I've not seen reports of issues with 4K Netflix. Unable to test here.

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like this box is well supported. Maybe these issues will get ironed out with future updates. Maybe an update to Nougat is what this device needs. Looking forward yo gettting it now and testing it out.

What clips did you test and how do you have your Mi Box connected to your network? Just wondering, I'll test when I get back from a business trip, but I haven't had an issue with 4K Netflix, so since that's really the only thing that I'm playing 4K HEVC on I probably won't care about the rest until I can rip my UHD BluRays.

I'm GigaE connected, then WiFi to Mi Box, with a pretty large SPMC video Cache.

In reality its not a big deal. They are test clips. 4K Netflix is more important.

As I said I did not test 4K Netflix, so its good that you are reporting no problems with 4K Netflix Streaming as that will answer @dermo33 original question.

I think it's going to depend on how people have their network setup. Since it's only WiFi, there's an issue where you might not get a good enough WiFi connection to reliably stream 4K Netflix. I also had issues when I was using an ethernet USB adapter where the quality would come and go, since it's USB 2.0. You're really going to want to have the Mi Box in the same room as your 802.11AC access point. See my results here:

Netflix in 4K uses HEVC compression and streams and uses DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP). Even 1080p Netflix using a 4K Netfix subscription sometimes streams using lower bitrate HEVC, which is good if you have a marginal Internet connection / WiFi with limited bandwidth.

I've seen reports of only needing 15Mbps for 4K / 23.976fps Netflix streaming content to needing 25Mbps for 4K / 60fps content.
802.11 5Ghz N & AC WiFi can easily handle those. USB2 as well. Yes a reliable Network setup is very important.

I've seen your results. You make no mention of the USB2 > Ethernet - Chipset you are using. ASIX AX88772 adapters ones are the ones most compatible with Xiaomi Hardware.

I have not tested any USB Hub/Ethernet, but I have tested this Anker USB Gigabit adapter and it works fine. It should probably work fine with other adapters with ASIX AX88179 chipset. I have also tested another USB Gigabit adapter with Realtek RTL8153 chipset and that doesn't work.

I want to control this box with my Logitech K400 wireless USB keyboard/mouse combo, as well as plug in my WD 2.5" portable hard-drive via USB. Seeing as there is only one USB input, would a USB hub work with this device? Or is there another box as good as this but with two or more USB ports?

I want to use an usb ethernet adapter. I've been reading around in the thread I can't seem to figure whether a tp-link ue300 would be a good choice some say it's great but if I understand correctly others are saying the chipset is not a good choice.

What do you guys think?

Yes that works.
I think the dirt, cheap unpowered one I use cost $4 from Ebay. I've had a 2.5" HDD and a Wireless USB dongle working just fine.
