S912 boxes - 4k content not playing full screen
#1
Hi all,

I have the following S912 boxes : -
Beelink GT1 TV Box Octa Core Amlogic S912
ACEMAX M12N Smart TV Box Amlogic S912 Octa Core

I have the latest version of Kodi running on both boxes.

I am playing a 4k test file (Sintel) from the same source and it plays absolutely fine and at full screen on the ACEMAX M12N box.

full screen view :- http://oi63.tinypic.com/14kbeah.jpg
video information :- http://oi64.tinypic.com/25r1snm.jpg

The same file on the played from the same source on the Beelink GT1 however is in black bordered window and not full screen

Borders around the video :- http://oi64.tinypic.com/2cqz438.jpg
video information :- http://oi66.tinypic.com/20t455e.jpg

View mode is "Normal"in both instances.
Both boxes are set at 4k @ 60hz within the android display settings
Both boxes have the MediaCodec (Surface) and MediaCodec options selected in the Acceleration settings.

Anyone else experienced this behaviour? Could this be due to maybe one of the boxes being rooted and the other box not?

The only thing I have noticed with the Beelink box is that even if I set the GUI Resolution Limit to "Unlimited" within the spmc settings, the system information always shows 1920x1080 @ 60hz (even though the box is set to 4k @ 60hz in the android settings).

Please note that the boreded video behaviour can be seen on multiple other 4k files I have tried on the beelink box. The same files play fullscreen / without borders on the ACEMAX box.

Any help would be much appreciated

Many thanks in advance

You should contact beelink devs as its clear is not kodi's fault, i bet is firmware related. Also you could contact koying as you're using SPMC which is not kodi official.

Mods, Why is this post in the Hardware Section when clearly its an Android AMLogic Firmware problem ?

Further S912 owners with issues in this thread, I warn you however you will not like what I posted. Welcome to bleeding edge AMLogic boxes.

Hi Veronica, thank you for the response. I have observed the same behaviour on both kodi and spmc with both boxes which would indeed suggest it is a beelink firmware issue as opposed to being kodi or spmc specific. I have posted the issue to their forum so I shall see if I get any response on the issue.

Haha, apologies, the links intermittently decide to display the full image or a thumbnail on the tiny pic site. If you click on the image on the tiny link site then it should go full screen and in the correct orientation.

Wrxtasy, thank you for the response and clarification. I have highlighted the issue to Beelink. I do recall reading about other issues with videos not playing in full screen that ended up being a permissions issue which needed root access to correct? That may be a completely unrelated issue and I may have misunderstood. If I root the Beelink box, is there a possibility that this will correct the issue I am experiencing?

I've been in the same situation as you but with a tronsmart s802 device (which I sold long ago). Honestly your best bet is to install pure libreelec if you're just interested in kodi, the dev supporting it should be very responsive.
Don't know if the dev Oman is still working for beelink but I recommend you to check freaktab.com forum for your box and look if there is a custom kodi app made for your box or all generic s912 devices, or just contact the most active dev in the forum to report the bug if you want to keep Android.
Good Luck!

Good advice, but I don't think there are any s912 builds as yet.

Thanks for the responses.
I read a post from the libreelec developer that they have no immediate plans for S912 support but we shall see.

I will keep an eye out for any updates.

For now, I will be sticking with the working Acemax box.
