this is intriguing because i've been looking for a replacement for my dead AFTV.. need Kodi + Netflix HD. unfortunately my options in Canada are scarce... used Nexus Players are going for over $120 for some reason.. Hard to find AFTVs too. so should i give an RPi3 a try and see what the Android TV development is like (for Netflix HD)? i can get an RPi 3 with all i need for around $90.. vs. biting the bullet on a Nexus Player for $120 + $20 for an ethernet adapter?

EDIT: i should add i can probably live with the slow Netflix app on my Smart TV for now as it plays fine (in HD) and hope that Android TV develpment on RPI3 ramps up soon.

Honestly don't get your hopes up, the pi is too slow a platform for proper Android TV support. It's one thing for it to work, it's another for it to be usable.

There's likely Nexus Player 2nd-gen coming, along with Xiaomi's Mi Box. Both will realistically have to sell for significantly less than nVidia Shield to compete.
